So the correct answer is that sexuality is fixed, we can not control it and so of he is truly gay he can never develop a romantic crush on a girl. This will hold because if he does the answer just changes to him having discovered he wasn't gay but is bisexual.
My own real view? Sexuality is more fluid than that. It isn't going to change from one moment to the next. And might not change in a lifetime. But it can change. We can easily observe this. Hormonal cocktails was tested and confirmed to turn gay men straight (this line of research was shut down pretty quick but we still know it Works.). We can again confirm this with the sharp increase in hormonal therapy during sex changes. While it absolutely does not always alter preferences, it sometimes does.
We know for a fact that our own hormonal balance shifts from year to year. So it is entirely plausible to wake up one day and be attracted to a new sex. Not likely, but possible.
We also know, again for a fact, that we can condition ourselves to be into certain acts, kinks, looks, behaviours, people etc. This of course CAN extend to liking a new sex. It is not likely to do so. We, as people, do not like to acknowledge it because it forces a few awkward questions. But it is absolutely and undeniably possible. Might not work for everyone. But most people have conditioned themselves to like something weird that didn't come naturally. I know people who forced an attraction to people and had it become real.
All that out of the way: Don't be silly and wait on it. People are who they are and do not owe it to anyone to change.
