My guess is you didn't otherwise he would know this is a no no. This is the #1 problem with relationships. People don't set up a definite, mutual vision...

Would you go to college hoping for it all to lead somewhere great without knowing or picking a major? Would you drive without knowing where you are going? Dating can be fun but if you don't have structure... It won't last.
