What can I do in this situation?

I'll keep this really simple. I've been dating this girl LD for 7 months. We started off as friend and eventually started dating. I'm 23 and she's 21.

Okay, so my girlfriend really wants to go out and enjoy herself but she has very controlling parents that don't let her leave the house. She often laments the old life that she used to live when she ran away from home and was living with her abusive ex boyfriend.

I want to make her happy and want to take her to do tons of fun things. I already plan on moving to be closer to her, but I don't know if her parents are going to let her leave the house and spend time with me.

What can I do to make her happy in this situation or make things better? Her parents don't really want her dating at the moment because they want her to focus on school and I commend that, but she's also young and should be able to enjoy her life. I would love some words of advice on this. Thank you :)

You sound like a stand up guy and it’s amazing that you would like to help her out and let her be happy. Unfortunately sometimes things are out of your control and she is the only one that has control to get her crap together so she can move away from her parents and become independent. If you feel like she is a worth it girl to keep around , then sticking through that obstacle she has going on will help her.

Thank you for the kind words. She tells me the same thing too sadly. I guess some things really are just out of our hands. It's very interesting that you say to stick around if I feel like she's really worth it because I decided to take a look around online and it looks like other people are saying the same thing, "stay if you feel like she's worth it". Is something like this a deal breaker for most? I guess I can imagine that because if you want to be in a traditional relationship where you can go wherever you want and do whatever you want.. it can be pretty frustrating.

@asker absolutely! So I don’t necessarily think it’s a deal breaker , however are the obstacles worth the waiting you are going to need to do to be able to have a normal relationship with her? It’s something that she progressively has to work on and move away from.

Id hold off on moving closer to her for the time being, and focus on convincing her to get away from her parents.
