My girlfriend wants to play basketball with the guys and I, is that a good idea?

I don't see why not sometimes. She wants to play and have fun. It would be a nice thing to do for her if she's into it.
Couldn't you and the guys be a bit gentle as if you were playing with a young kid and teaching them? Feed her the ball, let her dribble, pretend to let her get past you, or pretend to try to block her shots. Let her get open and shoot. Would you have to body check her and act like tough guys? That would be pathetic.

My friends let girls play basketball and even tackle football with us when we were in our teens and 20s. But it was playful. We didn't slam into them or anything.

basketball at its peak can be really physical. so if she wants to play she better be prepared for the possibility of getting hurt
