Almost every girl I knew when I was young said they had a boyfriend, even when they were flirting with me. I wasn't sure if they really had boyfriends or if they were just implying that they weren't inexperienced. They wanted to be seen as women, not little girls.

In some cases, girls or women say they have a boyfriend as a way of saying that they are not available. In other words, they are not interested.

Yeah it was long ago. She used to flirt and talk sweet and all. But when I tried to take things a bit more seriously she said she had a boyfriend. Now then again we met online and lived really far so can't blame her for not wanting to date me.
