This guy put our chats on vanish mode on Instagram, why?

I was talking to this guy (we both had feelings for each other at some point of our lives and still do have a soft corner) , he suddenly put our chats on vanish mode and when I asked why then he replied"I want to share and receive with utter honesty ".. What did he mean by saying that?

It means that honest texts should be not saved because it looks vulnerable in chat history but he wants you to remember it while you read it once. Sounds he's not very committed to your relationship. Or he might be scared that you might screenshot his honest texts. With vanish mode option one cannot screenshot the texts
