that and asking where you're from is still conversation starts and can also show YOU as the red flag who can't deal with basic conversation, which would make you boring as fuck to deal with long term in day to day interactions. Not everything needs to be a big deep question

I disagree with you on this. "Where are you from?" is a common conversation starter, which often can open the conversation up more, not only for flirting or chatting up, but in general. People all over the world ask me this and I don't have any issue with it, its just trying to get to know you better.
