Close mindedness is a common reason, as well as a lack of respect for respectable people and ideas and opinions and feelings and sacrifices and things. It’s not hard to find people who have things they respect, but it’s harder to find people who respect everything that is worthy of respect. Religious war is an example of this, when people respect their religion but not the right of others to believe a different religion.
