A lot of people have preferences for who they date.

Even amongst a person's own "race" - Europeans as example in many ways of the world don't like red hair because it was once contributed to Judas who betrayed Jesus as well as in some areas to demons and/or the devil itself.

Many African Americans & Hispanics do not like pale skinned of their own ethnic group because culturally paler skin = better social status back in the day. A friend of mine is 50% African (FROM Africa) & 50% French. Some African Americans make VERY disgusting comments at him because he's "pale" black.

On the reverse in Islands pale skinned African Caribbeans & Caribbean Spanish / Portuguese (e. g. Cuba) are desirable amongst their own ethnic backgrounds for dating & marrying... darker skinned counterparts (indication of poorer ancestry) are not

And that's not even considering the cultural differences, religious differences, cuisine differences, parenting differences, upbringing differences, etc. that come into factor amongst people of different ethnic backgrounds.

Women of color can be Asian, Arabic/Middle Eastern, Hispanic - these women come in all colors but they’re still considered women of color, even those that look more European. I’m a woman of color that looks European and I can tell you that most white men from rural areas aren’t drawn to me, but white men from big cities are. It may depend on where you are/where your dating pool is. I will say that colorism is definitely alive and well though. Fair-skinned and light-skinned women are often preferred over dark-skinned women. Some (if not most) societies have been conditioned to think that white is the epitome of beauty. To make matters worse, there is also the stereotype that dark skin symbolizes poverty. This is especially common in South & Southeast Asia. During my travels in the eastern part of the world (I won’t say exactly where because I don’t want to encourage hate towards a particular group of people), people admitted that darker skin made it seem as though you “labor in the sun” and are “less fortunate” in terms of wealth and education. Beautiful women were going to extreme lengths to lighten their skin simply to find a partner. It’s widespread ignorance. In time, this ignorance will become less overwhelming but I don’t think we’ll see that in our lifetime, unfortunately.

90%+ of every race dates and marries their own race. It doesn't matter what the race is. Just go to the country were they are the majority and the pattern is crystal clear all across the world. Minorities within an isolated geographic area always have less options when finding a suitable mate. Minorities will typically be more open to dating the primary race of a location because they have the numeric advantage and variety of mates that might be desirable, were as the majority race will be less likely than the minorities to date the minorities because the numeric disadvantage and have less variety to choose from. You happen to live in a White dominate nation, thus minorities favor Whites. If you moved to China, then minority populations would be more open to dating Asians. If you moved to the Congo minority populations would be more open to dating Blacks.

But to answer that question in another way it seems ingrained in us as human beings to select another person based on a subconscious need to procreate and bond for a lifetime. Would say if our eyes judge them to be unhealthy initially that they are less likely to make healthy choices for a lifetime. So given a person in shape vs someone who is very overweight I would suggest most people initially prefer the one who appears healthy for the longterm.

Now all that being said if someone wants to date and not get married if they want to date for other reasons.. certainly how that person looks might not be a big deal right?
