Girls like to remember all the happy times, keep souvenir boxes, blah blah blah. If you look back to ancient times, a girl would get a lock of hair from her soldier boy before he went off to war and keep it tucked away somewhere on her — the whole "keep him close to my heart" thing. Some guys would reciprocate by asking for a lock of hair. Around medieval times guys would wear a lady's scarf around their arm to "wear their girl's colors" and show off that they were basically dedicated to her. (So romantic, right? A nice contrast to all the maneur on the jousting field.) Later… I want to say 17th or 18th Century, there was the whole swapping of the kerchiefs (unsanitary… but cute). It became more fashinable to keep lockets or pins or little images of your beloved in one's purse/coat pocket (for the soldiers) or skirt pocket (for the gals). We see a lot of those around the time of the Civil War, but they also existed going back to the time of Bocaccio/Chaucer (Mediaeval Europe).


Now that you have the long staggering history lesson, let the girl take you pic. She wants to keep something nice on her phone and look at you when you're not with her. It's part of the great Romantic Tradition. Say Cheese!
