Why do women fear rejection so much?

Because its human nature. No one likes rejection... does not matter what gender you are. But its what you do after being rejected that makes the difference. Do you give up? Blame others? Get angry? or pick up the pieces lick your wounds and move forward? Adversity can make you stronger if you let it.
