Celebrity intervenes in my relationship?

So I have been dating my boyfriend now for around 8-9 months. Everything is great, he’s kind to me, loyal, a sweetheart, takes me out, has introduced me to all of his friends. We’ve told each we love one another. There are only two current obstacles we have. One, he lost his driver’s license for recklessness and he’ll be getting it back in a few months, and two, he’s not exactly in the best financial status he could be in. This is because he wastes it on material things, and temporary happiness. I’ve never been one to decide the guy I date has to have millions but more focused on how he treats me. Now, I’ve been introduced to this one NBA player through a friend and I’ve been slowly becoming friends with him. He’s been trying to take me out, get to know me on a serious level but I don’t budge. I told my boyfriend’s friends about this player texting me (I don’t say anything to the guy that could be deemed as cheating) and they all said I need to take this NBA guy more serious and go out with him. Clearly my boyfriend doesn’t have the best of friends if they’re saying that. Now i’m in this position of where I love my boyfriend and all, but when I look into the long term, I’m afraid he won’t be able to financially provide for me or a future family. I’m not saying this now because this NBA player came into my life who conveniently makes a significantly lot more, I’ve had this thought for quite some time. I don’t know what to do, I love my boyfriend for who he is, but in the back of my head I can’t help but wonder if this guy could treat me better.

Also the fact that you're becoming friends with the guy tells me you've kinda already made up your mind

If you think the nba guy isn't going to do you wrong. Then, fuck it, do it. But keep in mind, if it doesn't work out and you fail to find a guy that treats you as well as your current boyfriend. Then you have no one to blame but youself.

Thank you for taking the time to genuinely respond, I appreciate it. And you’re completely correct, things could go south at any moment with this player and I would be left all alone. I haven’t said anything to him that could insinuate that I’m interested in him but he keeps pushing. And so when I hear other people telling me to go for it, I’m stuck in regards on what to do. I do have feelings for my current boyfriend, I really do, it’s just not everyday you have some bigshot basketball player come into your life and want to take you out. I don’t know his intentions quite yet because I’ve only known him for a few weeks now.

The problem that I'm seeing is you may be losing interest in your boyfriend and you're considering forcing something or jumping to this nba guy, just because it's a unique situation

Yes he keeps pushing to go out on a nice date. To see him during the day (he made that comment) “Let’s go somewhere during the day” but I’ve told him a few times no. Yup that problem you’re saying is correct. I can acknowledge I might be losing some feelings for my boyfriend due to these two problems we’re currently facing. And I know, every relationship requires work and I wouldn’t just leave when things get hard. I would be taking a very high risk chance if I were to leave my boyfriend and go out with the player.

He’s a very kind guy who takes care of the people he holds most dear. Hasn’t stopped talking to any of his friends who were there for him prior to the fame. He’s the same religion as I am, held a high GPA in high-school, (these factors are important to me, I don’t want to be talking to a rock) He’s very close with his family, maintains a humble composure (unless of course that’s a facade I don’t know). Looks wise, he’s very handsome. Over 6’6 feet tall, he’s built, similar ethnicity as I am, etc.

No you’re completely right, it isn’t much to go off of. I am at the risk of jumping the gun. I know that. I think the way my boyfriend treats me is rare. He caters to every feeling I have, and does his best to fix any problem I might have. I think I just might be having these doubts because of the problems we have with him having no license or his smartest financial choices.

Yup yup wise words. If he was normal, and from all little that I know about him now, then no. I think that goes without saying. I probably should try to help my boyfriend fix those problems but I also don’t want to be overly mothering him. I’m not his wife so I don’t want to do more than I need to

Its going to be a gamble, getting a guy like that to truly commit to you will be a challenge. Meanwhile you have a guy who you claim to love and who has the ability to sort himself out. Motivating your boyfriend may be a better strategy if he's open to that.

Yup you’re right, I think the wise choice would be to motivate my boyfriend to do better and be better. If I take the gamble, I could be left with nothing or left with a lot more than I expected

I’ve never made the same question before. And I clearly stated in my initial post that I would never choose to be with a man solely based on his financial status. I’m dating the current guy who doesn’t have as much and I never make a comment about it. My problem is thinking about the long term success of my boyfriend, can he provide for me? Can he provide for a future family? I’ve been presented this unique opportunity and I’m not sure on how to go about it. That’s all.

I can tell you off of my account, this is the one and only time I’ve said this. I just downloaded this app today. Secondly, whoever this is, I have a job. I don’t ask for my boyfriend to pay for anything nor will I ever. If he wants to, sure but if not, then that’s fine with me as well. Nothing about this is being a gold digger.
