My girlfriend, who's always been a bit cynical, decided to test me with a fake profile. She created a fake social media account and started flirting with me. I played along, thinking it was just harmless fun. After a few days, she revealed it was her all along, saying I "failed" her trust test. I felt completely betrayed and broke up with her on the spot. Now she's bombarding me with calls and texts, saying it was just a joke and asking to get back together. Should I even consider taking her back after this?
3.6K opinions shared on Dating topic. She was absolutely right to test you and you failed twice.
You failed to remain faithful with your girlfriend since you cheated on her emotionally and your failed her again because you could not accept that she found out that you were a cheater and probably a toxic person.
Flirting, by definition is:
"a sexual behavior involving spoken or written communication, as well as body language, by one person to another, to suggest interest in a deeper relationship with the other person".
Flirting is NEVER innocent because we all know where it can lead to and if she would not have revealed herself, you would have taken it to the next level if you had the opportunity.
I fully approve of your girlfriend's action and disapprove of your 2 own failures. They just show that you guys are only interested in fornicating and not in the personality or the character of a human being.

I got a feeling you would have a much different opinion if the roles were reversed on this. If a man setup his girlfriend this way you would be labeling him a “control freak”, “creep”, etc.

@blueonblack22 I don’t think so. Most cheaters have double standards yes but testing your partner is a sign of distrust which could mean the relationship is already over
- 1 y
@blueonblack22 there are plenty of men and women who care too much about fornicating. But if someone’s honest about what they want okay I don’t like it.
But it’s sad when someone wastes a good persons time making a real genuine connection but then goes behind their back and cheats. No remorse. Those are narcissists at best and psychopaths at worst - 1 y
@Summeroflove read the post I wrote about this.
They are both in the wrong on this one. But she was worse. Reason being she did a thing called “entrapment”.
Now if they were married I might of given her SOME leeway to do this is she was suspicious. But she’s just as screwed up as he is. Two wrongs don’t make a right. - 1 y
@blueonblack22 I get what you’re saying yeah. It seems like trust was broken long ago. But it’s not entrapping someone if it’s something they would normally do but I get what you mean
- 1 y
@Summeroflove well if it was something they would “normally do” then why the hell are you staying with them?
I don’t know how old she is but he’s 44. If she is 30 or older it’s insane immaturity on her part as well. But sometimes the drama makes people feel more alive in a twisted sense.
Anyway two wrongs don’t make a right. But I don’t like how these other women are saying “oh there is nothing wrong with her setting up a fake profile.” A hell yeah there is. That was very wrong. Not saying it was “innocent” of him to respond that way. But this is entrapment. She put a bad idea in his head. - 1 y
@blueonblack22 yeah true and it seems she had her wonders for some reason maybe she wanted to confirm it

1 yA test is a test & although she tested you & you failed she failed the test herself. I think you should turn the table on her & create a fake profile & start flirting with her fake profile & see where things go & when you reveal yourself you can tell her you were joking too.

No , she didn’t trust you whatsoever by making that profile , so that should tell you , what kind of person she truly is , you are best to move on from her insecure ass , she will make your life a living hell if you take her back. You did the right thing by dumping her

1 yDon’t get back with her number one you shouldn’t be flirting at all but if there wasn’t anything romantic and/or sexual behind it then she’s overreacting.
Just stay away from her and if she keeps falling and texting. Tell her to not ever contact you again unless it’s important. If she keeps doing it then you’re gonna have to make harassment complaints against her.
I would be careful of people too suspicious of you cheating. Cheaters have double standards they feel like it’s okay for them to do it but never you (it doesn’t matter the sex) at the end of the day it’s better to be alone in peace. Then with someone whose just being that annoying.

1 yIs anybody familiar with the concept of “entrapment”? In most countries it’s not legal for police to put an illegal idea in your head. It’s like an undercover cop openly selling drugs to someone (they offer it first) or a female undercover cop openly soliciting prostitution (they tell a guy who didn’t ask they will f*ck for money). It’s not legal for cops to do this because it’s putting temptation in people’s minds when they might otherwise not commit a crime if the opportunity wasn’t presented to them. Anyway what your ex girlfriend did to you was moral entrapment.
Also I really like how all these women saying it “was completely okay” she did this (cough). If the roles were reversed the man would be labeled an obsessive control freak. Also a “creep” for creating fake profiles.
Anyway if you can’t trust your partner do the right thing when you aren’t looking then the relationship is dysfunctional to begin with.
It wasn’t right for you to flirt back at the fake profile your girlfriend created. But at sure as hell wasn’t right her to shit test you to a neurotic stalkerish extreme to begin with.
You did the right thing breaking up with her on the spot. She’s now realizing that she her own paranoia has become a self fulfilling prophecy and deeply regrets setting you up like that. Not to say you are beyond reproach yourself. But if your ex girlfriend was willing to go that extreme she’s capable of doing all sorts of other insane bs as well. She sounds like the type that would make up fake stories to the police if you and her got in a fight.
Best to avoid that at all costs.

1 yBrother... I've been through this with my first ex about 10 years ago. Please run fast and far. That girl is an immature child that likely won't grow up for a long time. That was the most toxic relationship I've been in and I can tell you it does not get better. Don't waste your time with it.
10 Reply You did fail. And she shouldn't be the one calling and texting. She should just move on.

1 yI suggest breaking things of. Its a really weird thing to do and if i was in that situation i would just leave everything and ghost them. You will not be able to convince me thats something normal to dom she clearly has issues. I assume you have heard about the story where a mans wife actually got sued because she was making fake profils?
00 Reply2.4K opinions shared on Dating topic. keep walking, she didn't trust you at all, and it wasn't a joke when she did it, but now it is.
No thanks, it's time to move on, you will/would hear about how you failed the test for the rest of your life.
And life is too short to put up with that.00 Reply565 opinions shared on Dating topic. Well I wouldn't do a loyalty test myself but fact is you cheated on her so I don't know why she's even apologizing now. BOTH of you betrayed each other.

Anonymous(36-45)1 yShe's damaged goods. She'll always be suspicious of you even when you give her no reason to be. On the other hand, you could make her suffer for this and keep the upper hand in your relationship forever, so I guess it depends on how hot she is and how good the sex is.

Opinion Owner1 yI love reading comments from women who are so insecure that they need to entrap their partners in order to feel good about themselves. These are the same women who would view it as cheating if their boyfriend/whatever were alone in the same room with another female, because as you know, that ALWAYS leads to something!
When guys flirt, it's always a prelude to "cheating" and getting outside sex. But when a woman flirts, it's always harmless and nothing more than her validating that she's still attractive enough to get a different man's attention. Besides that, if almost ALL men will respond to female flirtation no matter, how have you proven anything to yourself other than you're an attention sponge?
Of course, I expect to hear from all the women who are going to boldly proclaim " If I'M in a relationship, I NEVER flirt!" LOL

20 Reply No, because you are not trustworthy in her mind, and I am sure this feeling she has is because of you.

Are you really 44? How old is your girlfriend? This seems like a very "high school" relationship problem.

00 Reply 2K opinions shared on Dating topic. Women have this thing about testing. I don't think it is healthy. You have to decide if the 80% that is good about the relationship is worth the 20% crap that all women give. Good Luck.
