It really doesn't matter if the guy is "ugly" so long as he makes the woman feel a certain way. It's certainly easier for a hot dude to give a woman the butterflies / the horny, but some uggo dudes are quite charming, have a certain presence, and can be hurricanes in bed. These count for more than being handsome but boring.

And if people see a clearly not rich homely guy with a hot girl, then other women will assume he has some awesome traits that make him desirable, which negates his lack of physical appeal.
