Yeah, it's both. Defenitly cute, a beach date can be really cool and personal, in my opinion a lot better than a dinner date.

As far as safety is concerned, depends. If you live in a place that's safe, like i live in eu and i wouldn't be concerned. Is the beach secluded? Are you two gonna be far away from other people?
If you're going out at night, to a place where the closest people are gonna be out of screaming distance, and there's a lot of crime, and he's stronger than you, than maybe take some protection with you - like pepper spray or I've seen some necklace that alarms the authorities, and tell your parents where you're going and with whom.

It's potentially unsafe but, assuming it's not some super obscure beach with no one there and he's not going to make you swim too far out, it should be relatively safe. Honestly I think it could be a really cute first date though.

Also side note: some guys invite girls to first dates on the beach/swimming to get the girl to wear bikinis. . . so do with that what you will 🤷‍♂️
My sisters have dealt with that sometimes by just wearing athletic shorts and a t-shirt over a sports bra.

A lot depends on where the beach is. If it is nearby, then it will be quick to get there and quick to get back. So you will have more time to enjoy the beach, and the drive home will not be too long in the dark. It should be a beach where there are lots of people so there will be help if there are problems. Most beaches do not have lifeguards, so others may be able to help in and emergency. Consider all the options.

Not necessarily. Whether or not it's unsafe has a LOT more to do with the guy and how well you know him rather than the fact that you're going to the beach. Unless you don't know how to swim--in which case the beach DOES add some degree of unsafe.

I did this in galveston with a girl. Not sure what her deal was, but we got ice cream at the ben and jerries on the seawall, then she deemed we were incompatible before we even made it across the street to the beach. We weren't on the beach 2 minutes before she had some friend call her saying her grandma died and she had to go. Later on I called her out on her bs and she's like well I thought it was obvious we weren't compatible!
