How to handle this or shut it down?

Hello,

Long story short, I'm dating an ex from a few years back. Everything has been fine, but semi casual.

Tonight he texted asking if I'm free Sunday. I said yeah, he said he couls come over.

this means one of 2 things, he has birthday plans for me, or im getting dumped.

I don't know how to explain but the way the message was phrased just made me feel weird.

maybe I'm totally wrong. I hope.

BUT, how can I respond and say if it's to tell me bad news, to just block me and skip the conversation? And if it's not that, then I look forward to the weekend?

I'm aware this sounds crazy but I'm gonna be ill waiting all week.

Ughh I hate that sinking feeling you get when a guy hits you up to "talk" and you just know it's gonna be some BS! Don't stress yourself out all week worrying though - you gotta play it cool.

For your response, I'd say something like "Cool, Sunday works. just a heads up though - if you're trying to end things, can you just save us both the drama and let's leave it at that. No hard feelings, I'll be chilling either way."

That way you're letting him know you'd rather just cut the cord than sit through some breakup chat if that's what it is. But at the same time not accusing him or anything if it turns out to be good news.

Who knows, this could totally be him planning something cute for your bday too! Try to think positive. But either way, now the ball's in his court to decide how he wants to handle it without all the maybes stressing you out.

You're doing the right thing staying nonchalant - guys hate when girls freak out or overanalyze. Have some me time this weekend to take your mind off it. And no matter what, you'll be a'ight! Keep that chin up girl.

I would just ask him what this is about though I think people who just block someone are cowards who cannot communicate like adults not even in person even over the phone… If someone’s willing to tell it to your face it says more about them.

The only time I ever really block people is if I’ve asked them to leave me alone and they refuse. People who text at 2:00 in the morning and it’s not a emergency type of people.

He’s your ex for a reason I assume and it’s been semi casual….. I think you know and knew form the beginning it wasn’t going anywhere. He’s probably using you

Meanwhile, keep your conversation neutral--dont sound too excited to see him or too dismissive. I recommend that whatever it is, face it head on with grace, self-respect and maturity. Don't talk, just listen.
If he did decide to break up, so be it. Just say "you understand" and move on. Be expressionless and say very few things, leaving him curious for answers. You can't force a guy to want to be with you, its especially a red flag if he's indecisive.

You are a woman. You have better chances in the dating pool and you will always find someone better.
