Is it selfish to avoid dating?

As a man, I get pressured to find a wife and give my parents grandchildren. I've had nothing but bad experiences trying to date so I gave up completely. I am fine on my own, but apparently I'm being selfish according to my parents. Even some of my friends say I "need" someone in my life and that I'm wasting my assets if I don't have a wife and kids.. I just have a hard time believing that.

So do you want to be in a relationship and have kids? I am unsure how you feel about it based on your description. Ultimately, I do believe that people should want marriage and kids and that it will contribute to their happiness and highest good. But it shouldn't be something you feel like you need to do to impress your parents or whoever else. When you find your partner, those things will feel right. And you should be happy and willing when it does happen.

If your current perspective is that you don't want to date, I feel like there's a high likelihood that type of energy will spill out during the date. There isn't anything wrong with enjoying your own time. But do keep an open mind. Become a better person everyday that is likely to attract the type of partner you want. And don't let bad people deter you from dating. It is a numbers game, just keep going.
