Really shy as a kid and young adult, trying to get better day by day. I've always tried to get along with everyone, although I quickly realized that's impossible. I'm much more selective now: with the people I have a strong connection with, I can be very open and confident, with others quite the contrary.
And yes, I totally agree with your comment "I’ve found shy people to often be more observant and sensitive".

  There are some exceptions, but quite often, shy people are both of those things. They do have their own strengths and appeal

A little bit of both, if I know you I'm outgoing, if I don't know you I'm a bit shy but I like to try new things, I don't like living with regrets.
