What should I buy my boyfriend’s family?

I’m an Aussie and I’m going to visit my long distance boyfriend in the USA soon. I usually post his family little Christmas gift boxes from both of us, for Christmas. More recently, I can’t afford to, or afford the postage, if I’m coming over soon.

I’m aiming for September/October next year. What should I get his family for Christmas? I think I’d prefer to just bring the gifts over, in person. If I’m going to be there anyway. Should I just get little things that year, that are easy to fit into my suitcase? Like pieces of cute little jewellery for the women and little jigsaw puzzles for the guys? (Or I could post chocolates later for the guys)?

Aw that's so sweet of you to want to bring gifts for your boyfriend's family! I'm sure they'll really appreciate the thought.

Since you'll have luggage space limitations, some small, portable gift ideas:

- For the ladies: cute earrings, necklaces, fun sticky memo pads, lip balms/lotions. You could also do gift cards to coffee shops or clothing stores.

- For the guys: puzzles or deck of cards like you said, travel mugs, snacks from Australia like Vegemite or Tim Tams, guitar/phone picks if they play music.

- Universal gifts: baked goods like Anzac biscuits if they travel okay, pretty notepads/journals, tea selection.

You could also consider doing a basket of Aussie toiletries or foods for everyone to sample. Just make sure nothing melts!

I'd skip bulky stuff and go for thoughtfully chosen smaller items they can actually use. And a nice Christmas card from you both of course! They'll love that you took the time. I'm sure they'll give you a warm welcome.
