I don't know that scared is the right word, but imagine going in for an interview at a job you're probably not qualified for. It's like you're facing someone probably deciding you're not good enough. On a deep instinctual level, it's also like they're saying your genes aren't worth the continuation they can grant, which is kinda depressing to think about.
