Well if one person is going to pay for the whole meal, it should be whoever does the asking out, but since you’re asking about going dutch, I don’t mind going dutch. I wouldn’t be disappointed. I normally show up prepared to pay my own way anyway.
WoW! What has the world come to? 😬
This falls into the category of chivalry as I see it. A man courts a women. She is the prize, the precious gem in the mine, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It is my job to please her so that she will want to please me.
I would NEVER even consider letting a woman pay for a date, not even split the bill... ANY date.
The only exception might be a rare case if she is my girlfriend or wife and wanted to give me a gift to take me out on a date.
I like that. I genuinely do! I think it’s great that there are men out there who think like you however, not every guy does. I think going Dutch is the more modern way of doing things (which is fine too but really depends on the couple). Most of the guys that I’ve gone out with have paid for the date however, I will always at least offer to pay my own way. And I’m always prepared to do so.
Most of the guys that I’ve gone on dates with were gentlemen however, I’ve encountered one or two who took me out on a first date at a restaurant/bar/coffee shop and had this attitude where if they paid for my meal/drink/coffee, I automatically owed them sex. I immediately laid down the money for my half, said “no thanks” and just left. If I’m only meeting someone for the first time, I’m not having sex with them. In that case I’d rather just pay my own way and go home.
On the other hand, if he wants to date and court the old fashioned way, I’m happy to let him but I will at least offer to leave some money for the tip just to convey the message to him that I’m not taking advantage or using him as a free meal ticket.
I agree with you that's the "modern way of doing things." But I feel that the way I like to do it is the natural way. I feel that it is my natural instinct to pay, not just an accommodation to be societally correct.
And to me, following my natural instinct is so much sexier and more romantic. It sets the atmosphere for the date for me. If I am letting her pay, even a tip, it makes it feel more like a night out with the guys. And that just doesn't do it for me.
Yes, over the last decade or two I have found that girls sometimes do offer to chip in on the date. I don't hold it against them, I understand they are trying to be polite. But I would be lying if I didn't say that it sometimes ruins the mood for me. I try not to let it.
I would never expect sex in return for paying for ANY date. Even if it was date number 100. (not sure about date number 101 though 😂😉)
But when I pay, I think it tells her certain things that SHOULD make HER romantic and sexy instinct kick in... like... this man wants to take care of me... this man is not afraid to be a family provider... this man respects me as a woman and wants to please me... this man thinks I am special... this man understands what it means to be a man and enjoys it.
I would only be disappointed if he chose somewhere out of my budget and then expected to me pay if it wasn't clear beforehand. That seems like a sh*tty move.
Wow , I would do that if i wanted to have all my belongings thrown on the front lawn and have all the locks chsnge.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I hear that!
I don't even know what this means... lol
"Going Dutch" means that each person pays for themself.
@Valdemort
On dates?
Whewwww! That's a relief!
Yeah, if I go out with guy friends we split the bill. But if I take a woman out on a date there's no way I'm going to ask her to do that.
I never invite someone out to nowhere... unless I am ready, able and willing to cover all expenses myself
same goes for friends, family, colleagues, dates, partners and everyone else...
I don't ask someone out if I cannot take them out...
and I certainly would not get into any situation or relationship... if ONE date is going to hurt my pockets... or my feelings... lol
