Women age say 35-55 looking to date what do you see in men of similar age when you're out in public these days?

I'm in the USA so I'm primarily interested in responses from a female point of view to either validate what I see or tell me I've got it all wrong.

I'm an anachronism. I'm tall which is none of my doing but I'm also fit, athletic, well dressed, and well groomed, and I at least try to have some sense of style. For myself. I just like having standards for myself.

What I see in a LOT of guys married, single, doesn't matter. Men let themselves go in their early to mid 30's. When I'm out alone at a bar or restaurant I see mostly well dressed, well groomed women with a decent sense of style.

But the guys, LOL. Guys 35-55. Beer guts and butt crack. Sunken chest and no shoulders with flabby arms. They obviously do nothing to stay in shape and are not physically active. Bad haircuts (combover) or no haircuts. T-shirts with jeans and sneakers and a baseball cap worn backwards. Or dress shirts that don't fit with baggy dress pants and shoes that haven't seen polish in years. A sport coat that is wrinkled. Or better yet a standard dress shirt worn untucked that looks like a dress because it's way too long to wear untucked. And there's ear hair, eyebrow caterpillars, nose hair, yellowed teeth, untrimmed fingernails, and untrimmed facial hair. On the one hand I'm grateful for the lack of competition. On the other hand I wonder what the fuck happened to these guys to make them abandon any standards for themselves.

I'm just curious... as women in this age range, what do you see when you look around at the male landscape when you're out with friends and scoping out the available male dating pool or trying your best eye contact routine to get a guy to approach you. Does it look bleak to you or do you see potential wherever you look. Or is the truth somewhere in between?
