I once went out with a girl and it was great

Not exactly. I've had women choose other men over me. Later on they've tried to come back to me. I don't know if you can fully count that as full rejection. But either way, no I haven't gone out with any of them to date.

See the way I view it when a women chooses another man over you and later she decides she wants to date YOU. Then the burden is NOW on HER to woo YOU. And if she doesn't want to do that she's only re-affirming that she really didn't have any interest in you in the first place or now.
