You can but is it wise? That's a totally different issue.
I personally would not recommend it because you are likely going to create awkward situations mainly in view of the fact that we don't know whether this best friend is a male or a female.
If you, as a male, date HIM, then it will obviously reveal your gay side and is it really what you want? Do you want the entire world to know something that you have been trying to keep a secret?
On the other hand, dating a female best friend may result in losing that friendship for that girlfriend because of the complications that may occur.
If you state "your girl", I understand that she is your girlfriend. Why would you want to jeopardize that relationship and date her best friend. That is the perfect scenario for a bad ending.
