Why is how much someone makes more important than everything else to some people?

Well, mostly it's the same thing as other attributes. $, when handled immaturely, it becomes a way to convince yourself that you are now immune to change or as a way to try to let people know their importance. Guys do it differently often using their strong points immaturely. Guys who work out think that they are admired. My weakness/strength is intelligence so I try to show that off when I'm insecure

In a consumer-driven society, income is often equated with success, intelligence, and social status. It sucks but that is the mindset of some people.

Because money determines worth. It's easy to be poor playing keep up. It's difficult to create smart saving habits or other streams.
