Do you think a man can settle at 45 after he has been with too many girlfriends in his past?

Lets put it this way. A public figure (actor) has 45 years old, so far he does not have kids and never had been married before but he has had his share of gfs since he was in his mid 20 until now. His longest and last relationship was with a popular lady (actress) and lasted 4 years but never married. All of this guy past relationships had been with women related to his work. (reality stars, models and actresses and with many of them, he had lasted between 1 yr up to 4yrs (the last one). Now, he is currently dating again and had been in this new relationship for 2 years so far, the difference this time is the new girlfriend is non entertainment related (she was a former restaurant hostess and quit her job when she met the man and now she does not work), she is 15 years younger.

Anyway the question is he is already 45, never married before never had kids either with any of his past gfs but he has been around of course and probably he may even had casually dating between the real gf`s while he dated the real girlfriend at that time.

Will this guy be ready to settle with his current girlfriend at 45?

I have a friend who had a string of girlfriends his entire life. He was good looking and never had to lift a finger to get girls. They almost always went after him. His relationships lasted from a few months to a few years. They usually ended when someone else caught his eye, not because he no longer wanted to be with the current one. As a good looking guy, he always had opportunities, and it was just too much temptation to stick with one girl.

He's 67 years old now. He's been in his current relationship 4-5 years, which is a record. He just got engaged this year. I think his roving days are over.

I know he regretted a relationship that ended before her. I think he both realized that he was ready to settle down, and also that if he was ever going to get married he couldn't wait forever. He lost a good one and regretted it. Now I think he learned his lesson. He is just ready to settle with one person and I think it will last.

Actually I know another guy who is two years older than me. He may also be getting married for the first time soon. But he was never a player. I think that relationship will last also.

It basically works like this. When you have a lot going for you as a guy and women are throwing themselves at you left and right, then you have high expectations for long term partners, which generally no women can match. If the right women were to come along, then you'd probably marry her if she was into that, but the right women never comes along. Like you said the guy is dating actresses and restaurant hostesses. They aren't going to fit the bill. It is what it is. The further away from average you are, the harder it is to find a compatible partner. Average nobodies have it the easiest in the love game.

I don’t think she matters, once the right woman comes along if he wasn’t ready before he’s going to get ready now. He’s not going to risk losing The One.

But “trade up” yes


Meaning if he were to fall in love he would trade the life of the player in exchange for a life of happiness in a loving relationship


But for him to wake up one morning and say “next girl I hook up with I will settle for her” that’s never gonna happen


Guys who do that are guys with no options or prospects

I think he can settle but I'm not convinced he would. He is who he is and at 45 I'm not sure he would really want to.

It’s hard to say because he has such a pattern of being a player or never thinking he has found the best one
