9 moFunny you ask. I'd never met a pro athlete until about 6-8 weeks ago. A Brazilian beach volleyball player came into the place I generally hang out on Friday nights. She was about 6'2" like me. One of my married friends was chatting her up and brings her over to me, tells her all kinds of bullshit about me, then directs her to the seat next to me. Awkward! We were left left staring at each other... uh... ummm... hi!
I told my idiot friend later that I would break every finger on his hand if he ever put me in a situation like that again.
Anyway, the first thing I said to her was, ignore everything he told you, he's an idiot. We started talking and she was really nice. She had just moved to the area from Brazil and was still looking for an apartment and trying to get networked into the US beach volleyball community and coaching in high school or college volleyball programs in the area. The volleyball was a great conversation starter as I'm a fan and I love the game. I didn't get her number or end up dating her but my friend group is connected to high school and college sports programs so they are helping her network.
That's my one and only exposure to a pro athlete.

Your Friday night encounters are always so fascinating to read. 🙃

Now you know why I limit myself to one night out a week. :)
Some of the guys I hang out with are out 2-3 nights a week.
1.) I can't / won't do that to my body.
2.) Not lying or bragging but the constant attention from women gets tiresome sometimes. I can take it in small doses and it can be fun observing people. But it frankly wears me out. I'm a natural introvert who just doesn't want to interact with 95% of the people I encounter. Small talk is like getting a tooth drilled without Novocain.
Anyway, I'm headed out again tomorrow night to hang out with my (harmless) idiot friends.
- 9 mo
I know how you feel. I can socialise in small doses too. Same bar? Lol!!

Oh we travel on any given night. The same owner / family owns three different places in a roughly 3 block area and all of them are really nice upscale wine bars but with different themes. We always start out at the same one. And that's where most of the insanity happens, LOL.
But we also frequent a tiny place that most people think is a mob bar. Rough crowd. I smashed one of their bar stools to toothpicks one night. But the owner is a great guy and a female bartender who's been there like 30 years, is hilarious. I'll ask her to make me a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned. She'll say sure, then plunk down a Bourbon on the rocks, LOL. She steadfastly refuses to make a mixed drink for anyone even though she knows how. Her answer... you want that go somewhere else. We don't serve that here. I pour spirits, wine, and beer. She's kidding but with a totally deadpan face. Everyone loves her. It's like a family of regulars in there. NOBODY goes in there and causes trouble.
And then there's an Irish pub with live music and another place with an old English tavern theme. Wandering around keeps us from getting bored with one place. And they all have their own regulars and vibe. - 9 mo
I like the sound of the Irish pub. That's probably where I'd go.

9 moDepends on the sport. I'm not into hyper masculine, jacked females. But if we're talking about sports like gymnastics, figure skating, dancing, etc, I definitely would.

u 9 moProbably not. I am sure there are great people out there who are athletes, but as another poster said, I wouldn't want to deal with their traveling schedule. Sure, I could travel with them, but with me having kids, that would be very disruptive to their lives.
10 Reply I'm fine dating athletic types but actual pro athlete who is gone all the time traveling? That's a whole lifestyle I'd know nothing about and seems like it'd be a long distance relationship most of the time, which I wouldn't be for. There's a reason actors and athletes usually date people who have experience in their situation and not us regular folks.

9 moNo.
Not a serious long term thing.
I do not do long distance relationships. I would not have dated someone who was gone with travel all the time and where a relationship revolved around their job.
10 Reply 1.6K opinions shared on Dating topic. Whether he is an athlete or not, he is a human being. The basic remains the same.
The right question is whether you would date him, rather of what he is.

9 moNo, I don't like the "athletic" look in women. It makes them look like a weaker version of a man and just doesn't appeal to me.

Especially if they look like Allison Stokke.
But there re others too, I like many girls who play team sports for example (Handball, Basketball, Volleyball, Football etc).
Also, one of my favorite type are girls who practice martial arts (Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Judo etc).
