Would you ever try smoke jumping?

For those who don't know what it is: smoke jumping is practiced by firefighters who are parachuted into the fire so they can fight the flames from the inside. I have a friend in South Africa who does this as a profession and I was wondering if you would consider doing it? If not why not?

I have worked with smoke jumpers. They are a special breed of amazingly brave, fit smart people. Could I do it? Yes i think I could. Would I? No. Its just not an activity that interests me. My interests are else ware.

You know I think you would have been much happier doing that kind of job. I can really see you being a firefighter.

Never heard of it, but firefighting is a dying profession. People can now get rid of fire with sound using a special device. It just prevents oxygen from fueling the fire.

But even if it wasn't dying, that doesn't sound like my cup of tea, even if I am somewhat of an adrenaline junkie.

I think you need to have a good dosis of bravery and leave behind any tendency towards recklessness. The way you describe it, any miscalculation could get you seriously injured, or worse.

I think it would be a mad crazy effort to try to be a parachute firefighter BUT the access to equipment would be something that would get my concern

Nope. I think they could create devices to do this without human life at risk. That said the people that do this are seriously brave.
