I got to know this man from an online dating app. We talked consistently for a month and a half. He would send me good morning texts and constantly say “I love you” and wanted me to say it back and promise a future together. It was hard to do that since he doesn’t have his U. S. citizenship. He was talking about marriage already. I’m a serious person not actually playing around or anything. We would talk about personal things together. He first talked to me in May but was engaged and said he thought the dating app was an online platform for learning English. Anyways he broke his engagement and reached out again in September. He’s overseas and I’m in America. I texted him today saying I got too attached and that I want to go back to school and that’s gonna take me 4 years, which he said he can’t wait that long. I’m upset. And I don’t know if I took the right step.

If you think about it objectively, it is insane to talk about marriage without ever meeting. Not just rushed. But out of his mind.
You can safely bet that he thinks he likes you, but he only likes the feeling of thinking of you. That's mostly true for anyone using dating apps. They are chasing a feeling. Not a person, because they haven't even met a person and already are acting. So, i actually think that the only people that need dating apps are ultra traditional stay at home future moms, because they have no other way to meet new people. You can't fall in love if you don't meet anyone. But if you meet someone for the purpose of falling in love, then you already are stuck imagining feelings that aren't founded in reality. ㅤ
You took the right step. He says he loves you and you have never met IRL? Getting married is a serious thing and you need to be with someone, go on dates, have fun and for many have sex before talking about marriage. Ur thoughts?
I absolutely agree with you. I would have to fly to him to be able to meet him. We never met but it just stings to have cut him off suddenly.
