If you have transitioned to grandparenthood yourself, did your grandkids settle on the same nicknames that you did for your elders? Did you have any say in what they call you?
My sister felt too young to be called “grandma” or the like. So she insisted on “Neenaw”. Ell oh ell! Her fiancée is “Poppa” preceding his first name.
I dated a woman who had grandchildren and she taught the first one to call me “grampa”. I think because it made her feel better about being a young grandmother herself. Misery loves company!

My grandfather was called grandpa Carter. Two grandmothers were Gram and Gunga. I was the youngest and had no choice in the names. They came from my older brother not being able to pronounce the names correctly before I was born.

He was the oldest of the cousins on mom's side, so some names stuck. Others might've happened before him because on dad's side he wasn't the oldest of the cousins!

I still have 2 grammies and a grampa but when I was little I would call one of them Grammie Cow since she had cows and I didn't want to confuse the two and everyone thought that was funny so they all started calling her Grammie Cow which they still do to this day and I really don't think I was her favorite grand daughter after that. 😳

I've always called my grandparents.

By Grandpa and Grandma. Added Great to those for Great Grandparents.

My Grandchildren have different names for me based on what their parents have decided to call me. I've never corrected or changed any of those names.

Most common has been Papa, Grandpa and Grampy at this point.

My grandma was grandma/glowie her nickname was kinda her thing.

She used to chase us with the wooden spoon and my dad would say what we got was a joke because she's too weak to do it for real now and him and his brother would get the shit beat out of them with that spoon 😂

The only grandparent I knew was my maternal grandmother, and I always called her Grandma. My other grandparents died before I was born.

My parental grandma died before I took birth so I never knew her. I called my paternal grandfather 'Dada-ji'. He passed away 2 years ago.

I call my maternal grandpa 'Nana-ji' and maternal grandma 'Nan'.
