How to get someone's attention and ask for number?

I am too simple, but I am never able to score any numbers or dates 😅.
I want to ask out someone in the library,
I normally sit at the same place from some time there is someone sitting in front of me.
She caught me looking at her and I caught her looking at me.
I just wanna mess up (I don't read any books just some random paper or just try reverse engineer binary for CTF or pwn challenge, for non tech people I am just doing something for computer coding)

False alarm, sorry guys she never was looking at me. It was someone behind me. I think a lot of people have the same spot. She is not single, her boyfriend sits behind me and whenever they share a text she looks at him and smiles.

Understand your issue.

In our mothers generation, women would in the worse case have politely rejected an approach and even thanked a guy for asking her out even if she didn't like the look of him. Her rational was that if she was rude about it he might not approach a girl who did like him.

Now women are more inclined to humiliate a guy who approaches them and possibly post Tik Toks on it. Or at least it seems like that to us.

I'd have second thoughts about a cold call approach to a girl at my local cafe as it is my home turf. A rude rejection out of my home territory doesn't matter but does in my home territory as it may embarrass me in front of people I'm acquainted with.

I'll test the waters first: Initiate with a little chit chat and if I get positive response go further.

You've got that opportunity at the library. You've got something in common for a start. Pretty easy to say I see you here a lot what are you studying/reading and chat about each others interests. If the conversation flows suggest getting a coffee to talk more.

Go up to her when she's not busy and it's private, and sit down but not too close to her. Make good eye contact and introduce yourself by telling her your name, and tell her that you would like to talk with her. Go ahead and do that.

Ask her what she's doing. Ask her about how she's doing in the class and how her day has been and things of that sort. Then finally you can get around to asking her out, maybe for coffee or something like that initially. Don't make it a big deal initially. If she wants to, she'll say yes, and if she doesn't want to, she'll make an excuse or maybe just say no. You should accept what she says at face value and do not argue with her or try to talk her out of it if she says no. If she says yes, have a plan ready where you could take her for coffee or something like that. If it's something that you could do in the daytime, that's probably much better than asking for a night date initially. I wish you the best of luck at this.
