One of my dreams is to become an established author. I've enjoyed writing ever since I was the age of 10, and now want to pursue it as a career. I'd like to write novels, but not your typical teen romance novels, sci-fi novels, novels which highlight different issues within society from more than one angle. Writing is my dream, and here are a few reasons why:
1) To Show, Your Background Doesn't Define You

My family isn't the wealthiest, I wouldn't consider us poor - we just have enough to get by in life. My city has a bad reputation, if you had to had to think of a stereotype for a person of my age, from my city the first thing which would most likely come to mind is "plastic gangster." The school I go to was rated the worst in my city at one point.
People don't expect kids from my city or who go to my school to do well in life.
And I really don't like that expectation. This expectation puts a lot of kids I know who have the potential to do good things down.
I want to show people you have a chance to be successful, that you don't have to live up to the plastic gangster stereotype, and you're school doesn't matter, it's you as an individual which does.
2) I Want To Do The Thing I Most Enjoy For a Living

This may sound cheesy, and possibly even childish I accept that. But I just think it'd make me happier as a person, and as time goes on I am becoming better at writing, and that is not an opinion I formed by myself, people have told me I sound older than I am in my writing, my English Language grades keep on improving.
It may not be completely realistic to turn a hobby into a career, therefore I have a backup plan just in case my career as a writer never takes off- But if it does, that means I'd be spending the rest of my life doing one of my favourite things and people have told me I do have a fair chance of becoming published- so it may not be completely unrealistic.
3) I Want To Be A Representative Of My Community

I'm apart of a lot of communities.
I want to represent each and every one of those communities in a positive light because within some of the communities I am a part of, there seems to be a lot of negative representation of my people. Therefore people of my community get a bad stigma, a bad stereotype attached to them.
I want to help change that.
Show that there are good people within the communities are a part of and make my voice stronger than the bad.
4) I Want My Voice To Be Heard Through My Characters

A lot of great authors, use their characters as their mouthpiece. They convey their thoughts and feelings through their characters.
And in my opinion, that is a great way of having your voice being heard. A lot of people aren't confident enough in the sense they can go up on a stage and have their voice be heard by a crowd of people.
So they have themselves heard through other ways. Like through their characters. The characters I create will be complex, not perfect by any means, their faults will shine, but throughout the story, they will strengthen as a character. They will even be wrong at one point, not the typical character who is righteous throughout the whole story. Because in my opinion, that is unrealistic. We've all been wrong at more than one point in our lives, it's not about us being wrong, it's about how we realise and make ourselves right.
I definitely went off on a tangent then didn't I?
Thank you for reading this MyTake! Being an established author is my ultimate dream as I said previously, and I just felt the need to get it out there. I use G@G to help improve my writing skills, that's one of the reasons I use this website for anyway. So it would make sense to share my dream on here. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed!
Thank you :)
