I’ve consumed some others such as Hegel. There’s a nice long YouTube playlist called “half hour Hegel” where this philosophy professor goes through his largest book and just goes page by page explaining it. It’s pretty neat.
Dabbled a lot in various areas but never was too interested. I found that much of the basic philosophy I had thought up on my own as a child. So I kinda lost interest in them and assume they aren’t as smart as people assume. I don’t think I’m very smart but I can philosophize like a mofo. A lot of it feels like bullshit.
You can create anything with your mind, and it can sound solid and logical. But it’s utter trash lol. So I’m skeptical.
Not really a philosopher, but Christopher Hitchens has made many an inspiring speech against various religions and their denominations. In that respect, the man was born and died way ahead of his time. Richard Dawkins too has an interesting insight into life - the no-bullshit-attached kind.
Hitchens was heroic, I didn’t even agree with a ton of his more conservative positions but he was just so good at making the argument. Mad respect to him for the waterboarding stunt he did.
Thats quite the list. Can you share what they thought you? Searched Hagel on wikipedia and he seems to use the same techniques as me where he assumes something is true and then works with that to both disproof and confirm it.
@sawno it would be too extensive to go into detail, so I think just looking them up and looking especially into their critical theories of society & perception theories would do since that’s what I focus on when I read philosophy mostly

Sargon of akkad, vee and styx are political news sources. Brandan O'Niell had nice speeches. Jordan Peterson can be very inspiring because he has a different view as me. In many cases none of them are direct influences but they helped me gain the worldview i have along the documentary JFK to 911 everything is a rich mans trick.
Some of that will sound like conspiracy stuff but rather then accepting things for face value i integrate it into my web of logic if i can place it. Mainstream media stuff often conflicts.
For my spiritual philosophy the basis was christianity, radio frequencies and other (Quantum) physics, near death experiencers, personal encounters and my own web of logic.
I watch those guys sometimes. I think Styx is way too into the weeds of the occult for me but he definitely has a sophisticated understanding of sociology.
They aren't but i haven't indulged much into another philosophers work. I like spending time in my own mind instead as its more productive for me and i enjoy the sensation of grabbing a problem i don't think has an easy answer and just digging in and figuring it out over time. It helped me a lot with both my spiritual and religious views.
But you do need grounding in reality in order to hold your ideas up to evidence and for that these gentleman are good sources.
I am sure Sam Harris would consider himself a philosopher, among other things as well. I consider Sam Harris to have a pretty significant impact on me, specifically his views on torture, free will, and morality. I'd say my moral values have been reshaped almost completely by listening and reading Sam Harris's talks and books. Sam Harris is a philosopher of the 21st century, very modern. I can't think of any other philosophers who have such an impact on me.
I discovered him when I was 15, but had no idea of the profound influence he would have on my wayward self at 25. Picture going from a promising high school student on the path towards teaching English, to an older man drinking beer before he started work, finding corners in the city to piss in on his way to shift. I knew them a change was necessary as I faced my own mortality and possible death.
Lol when Descartes tried sealing himself away from the world to think by himself while developing his famous ‘I think, therefore I am’ line he actually impregnated the Dutch cleaning lady who worked in his building.
Alain de Benoist, Dominique Venner. Guillaume Faye, but he is more a political scientist. Also Friedrich Nietzsche, Julius Evola, Rene Guenon. Also Socrates, Plato and Cicero.
Kant, Marx, post-Kantian German idealists and materialist thinkers, Foucault, structuralism (I think it's more honest to talk about philosophical currents over individual thinkers)
