What happens if you forget your attire for PE class?

I forgot my PE stuff yesterday, since I had put it in the laundry and forgot to put them back into my bag. My teacher said that I should participate anyway in my jeans and t-shirt. She also insisted that I should take off my shoes and socks and participate in my bare feet. This was somewhat embarrassing for me, but she didn't leave me with a choice.
Have you ever experienced this? And how did you feel about it?
PS: I'm a girl, I'm 18 and still going to school.

You realise dirty shoes will be walking all over those floors I think your teacher suggesting you still participate and wear no shoes is stupid

what makes you think that people walk there with dirty shoes? We are allowed into our gym hall only with appropriate trainers (which are not worn outside of course) or bare feet.

It's not that I want to be barefoot, but I wasn't given a choice. I just wanted to say that the floor being dirty is not the issue. I looked at the bottom of my feet afterwards and there was hardly any dust or anything on them.
I just feel weird being barefoot around all the other people.

A girl in our class had a similiar punishment when she kicked her classmates :D

So a girl in your class had to take off her shoes and socks just because she kicked someone?
I've never heard of that. How old was this girl when she was punished that way? And how long did she have to spend in her bare feet as a punishment?

Yes for kicking and fighting. We were around 16. She had to spend the entire lesson (2 hours) that way.

Wow, I can imagine that this is quite an effective punishment. It must have been so humiliating, I guess I would never have done this again.
Did she tell you how she felt about it?

We were not that close so we didn't talk about it but yes she seemed really embarrassed and sorry :D

We are not allowed to do this unfortunately, since it is said that we would slip in socks and could hurt ourselves or others.

I can see why it might happen, in a way better than doing it barefoot though, only thing is i ended up doing the rest of the day in dirty socks

Compared to doing it in your underwear doing it without shoes and socks is trivial although it can be slightly embarrassing.

why unhygienic?
The hall where we do PE is normally pretty clean.
So I guess this wasn't required at your school?

It certainly wasn't, we always had to have gym shoes on.
There was always clean, sanitised spare ones for those who had forgotten theirs.

so you think my teacher is wrong to ask this?

On a personal level yes I do, simply because no matter how clean the hall floor may be, you have no knowledge as to whether anyone else's shoe may have some filthy disgusting muck on the sole/heel.
Not only that, there may well have been someone else barefooted who possibly might have a foot disease of some sort.
