Why do people say getting a Master's Degree in Psychology or Mental Health is worthless?

Lot's of jobs yes. A somewhat stable job market as-well, the only changes being raises in demand. Concrete science is less abundant in those fields. They regularly give advice based on short-term, or non representative studies, only to have them backfire later. Suggesting couples watch porn is an example of this.

It really depends on your focus. Evolutionary physiology has some very good practical applications. Mental health depends on your treatment angle and which disorders of the mind you intend to treat.

It's more they think you won't truly help people. And if it is employment their worried about, then they're mostly wrong.

I don't know why they would say it is worthless. A Master's degree is pretty good in those fields. Most jobs do require that you go on and do a lot of hours and get licensed of course, so you have to do that for those jobs.
