But I wonder if it doesn't sound ridiculous to go back to school at my age
Is it shameful to go back to school at 23?
But I wonder if it doesn't sound ridiculous to go back to school at my age
Go for it!! - as we Americans like to say.
Besides, it is absurd, on a colossal scale, to compromise your future and future potential because you are afraid of feeling ashamed. You compromise your whole future because you might feel embarrassed.
That hardly makes sense.
School itself is interesting. You will be adding to your future potential both in terms of the kinds of work you can get and your future earning potential - and what the heck, you might even enjoy it!
Besides, if you go back and work hard, you will be showing strong character and grit. That is seldom a bad thing.
Best of luck.
Thank you very much Nightš It's just that in France this kind of thing is rarely done and it is not so well seen, but you are right. I wish you a good day š
Just a really quick follow-up.
Actually, it is not that common in the USA either. Though it is not generally looked down upon.
Either way, how others view it is not important. The more resistance you face and the more hard work you have to put it, the more it demonstrates your strength of character and resilience.
Unless it is illegal - and that was a joke, I know it is not - there is nothing to look down upon when someone is trying to improve themselves and their situation. So I say again, GO FOR IT! - and the very best wishes and good luck to you.
Thank you š
You know what it's never ever shameful to make a choice to do something to better yourself never is it shameful you should be so proud of yourself because when you're finished you have now just done something the thousands and thousands of people don't have the balls enough to do because they're embarrassed from it I say congratulations I seen you proud of yourself I think it's a beautiful thing to make a call and follow through I think you are leader and I think that you were somebody did the younger generation will look up to once you do what you have to do I say good job
Oh thank you very much š
Of course not! You're never too old to go back to school and further your education. When I was in my undergrad, there were people in their 40's and older in some of my classes. I think that's awesome. You should do what makes you happy. Never be ashamed of wanting to improve some aspect of your life, regardless of how old you are.
My late father gave me a few ideas to live by. One was "Never stop learning". If you get a chance to learn more things, go for it! Once you get some certs and diplomas, no one can take them away.

Iād highly encourage you to get your GED, get an Associateās, then get a Bachelors degree in a worthwhile field. Preferably in a STEM field but psychology and economics are desirable as well. 23 is not at all an unusual age at which to resume your studies and shouldnāt bother you at all. Just donāt pay attention to anyone who says otherwise. And above all, donāt get a degree in the Humanities and Arts even if youāre good at it. Or typically you will end up with a tonne of student loan debt and an underpaying job at best.
If youāre uninterested in any worthwhile field, then explore trade schools. I donāt know much about them tbh.
I have a nice apartment, 0 student loan debt since I was 27, a decent 401K and plenty of disposable income. Iām not rich tbh, but I have the skills to be if I took more risks. I have a PhD in electronics and now work as a programmer in the Silicon Valley.
No, I teach at a local college and a lot of my students are a little older. Some were in the military and some just wanted to wait for various reasons. They are often my best students because they are more mature and know why they are their and not just because their parents are making them. Say it takes you another 5 years to finish. You will be 27 years old. You will be 27 years old anyway, wouldn't it be better to be a 27 year old college graduate?
At your age? You're still practically a kid.
I went back to school in my mid 30s and didn't suffer one bit of discrimination from people younger than me. It's not like I had to hang out with them or anything, but I became pretty good friends with a few. There were also quite a few students there who were older than me.
What's cool was, I was wiser and had a much better work ethic in my mid 30s than I did in my late teens and early 20s, and I even became friends with some of my professors.
So by all means, go for it. It would be shameful not to.
Hell, I've even heard about people going back and getting their BA or PhD in their 50s and 60s. It's never too late for education.
Dude, you're cute. So young with no idea; people go back to school and get PhDs when they are 70 years old.
I'm currently back in school getting my RN license after 10 years working as a firefighter. You can do anything at any point, just go for it and follow your heart.
I know someone who left school at 16 and got her first batchelor's degree (with a higher grade than mine) at 55. It's never too late, you'll be treated like an adult, not a child, and you and your fellow students will be there because you want to be. Go for it.
At the age of 48 I attended college for the first time. My kids were about to graduate from high school. I wanted them to know you can always go back if you choose not to go when you graduate high school. So I went to college. I now have a degree and I also found out a few things about myself. I like to write which I never knew until I went to college. I also graduated with a 3.65 average when I barely made it through high school.
I say go for it, you will appreciate the fact that you did.
Not at all.
due to some shit in my past, I pretty much bombed at school.
I then did a huge chunk of important qualifications after 20, then degrees later on.
itās just being sensible
Thanks for sharing your own experience, it's motivating. It's just that in France , it is quite frowned upon lol
Thereās no shame in going back to school at any age. If you want to further your education, you should do it!

You'll get many curious looks but I wouldn't say it's shameful. In a world in which girls are praised for whoring themselves online and schools inviting them to speak to younger girls about successful business and entrepreneurship what you do is nothing we should be shaming.
There's never anything shameful about trying to improve yourself or expand your knowledge. I've been in classes with 40 year olds.
Just don't go for something stupid or useless.
Increasing your knowledge is never a shameful thing.
No, never too late.
I know lots of women who didnāt and put marriage, kids at 18-22 years old... later on... they regreat not putting time at a young age to get career in their hands...
go for it!!! 💕👍
I think seriously going to school at all is commendable. Should be no shame in it.
There's nothing wrong with that! As another 23 year old, if a friend my age said they wanted to go back to school, I'd support them
You don't go 'back to school', you get a GED and pursue a degree. Talk to an education counselor if you need help.
Better then being a Beauty School Drop Out.
From the musical Grease:
It is never to late to go back to school.
If you want to learn new things good on you. Be proud of yourself. Remember knowledge is power.
Get the GED.
It's commendable.
I applaud anyone and everyone who does what they can do to get back on track.
Ur not going back to school to make friends. Your going back to school to make more money.
Simple as that
Its never shame, i know a person who graduated from university at age of 40. You are not late, do it ; )
