I work at a car dealership and have been a product and in-vehicle tech specialist here for over 5 years. Though this is a very much male dominated industry I and encountered very little sexism, how ever there has been a few times I certainly have.
One of the times that sticks out most was when an older woman completely disregarded the information I was giving her about her vehicle and wanted "to talk to a man because he would know what he is talking about". My coworkers and I had a good laugh when I brought her my trainee which was a young man and he told her exactly what I did.
Have you ever had to deal with sexism in the work place?
Yup. I have been put down for being a man. I have been cut out of opportunities because I did not have the correct genitalia. I have been treated much more harshly by female leadership than my female counterparts. I have been gossiped about by female employees who were intent on having me fired because I was the wrong gender. I went from not caring about the gender of my direct report to preferring men, simply because some, not all, female leadership was hostile toward my gender. No I wasn't the only one. Imagine, having an infant at home, young family and women are plotting to get you fired because your a man... Well the infant was a girl, what about her? I will say, the female HR staff was very helpful in getting the situation rectified and it never happened again. Actually, I was able to totally turn the tables on them because I had witnesses and proof. So after they got reamed and put on notice, they never messed with me again, or spoke to me for that matter. Which was fine with me. I rather they fear me than like me.

Yes, I my first real job after college I worked in an office that was all women I was the only guy. You'd think that would be cool but it wasn't. Not only was I bullied by the women but sexually harassed. Honestly the were worse than I've ever witnessed men being, it was a really difficult time, I really wanted to get out of there but I couldn't find another job for 6 months. I know people will find it funny, oh the poor man hoot bullied by some women boohoo, but it was a really degrading experience. Personally I don't actually blame them all, there were 2 main ring leaders who kind of bullied the other girls too so everyone else in the office just followed their lead, the problem was one of them was the boss. She was a 50 year old divorced woman and was the most sexually inappropriate to me, and it was not wanted attention at all.
Molly no joke let's start a nipples are in point club. This happens to me and I get remarks as well as a guy. They show through everything which is humorous to me because it should not be a big deal.
Gosh, that probably felt pretty good to tell her what for like that.
In my own work place I don't think I've encountered any real sexism. Thankfully. I work in a restaurant where I think the mix is almost about an even ratio of men and women... actually maybe slightly more women. Here my workmates pretty well recognize everyone else's credibility. I don't know what customers are thinking, I work in the back and kitchen mostly.
I almost did. The place I work at has 100% female servers and all the men work in the back in the kitchen or cleaning but I applied to be a server, when they called me back and scheduled an interview they said they didn’t have a server position open and we’re going to put me in the kitchen but when I got to the interview I guess they changed their mind and now I’m the only male server there.
My school. This like one time it like... It was sports and fitness week I guess so all the guys basically came in tight shorts, flip flops, shirtless, and sunglasses (excluding me because I am insecure and I am not comfortable showing off my body). During that week a girl had a shorter shirt because her younger brother cut it before she went to school and she got sent to the office to public nudity... What the fuck. Also the same week apparently some of the girls I knew (they were cheerleaders) had to do big projects because we had mid-finals so they wanted to use the library computers but the coach said that women cannot use computers because they're too dumb and should learn how to cook and clean because it's only good they're good at.

My first job out of college was working in the Billing department. It was me and six women and our area was kind of isolated from the rest of the building. They were always messing with me and it was often very sexual. They would ask me about my sex life and ask really personal questions to try to make me uncomfortable. They would talk about their own sex with their husbands and boyfriends and make jokes saying something like I'll bet you wouldn't done it that way or would have done it better or something. It got physical in some cases like this one lady would sneak up behind me while I was sitting and put her boobs on my head and they would all laugh. I know it was all in fun and they didn't mean any harm but it was very awkward. I still work in the same company but I moved out of that department after about eight months. I guess it was more sexual harassment than sexism.
Oh yess omg, I keep getting sexualized because I am a male and all the females at work just look at me like they want to sleep with, and keep telling me that I must be strong because I am a man and since we can't multitask and only focus 1 task at a time we do that task REALLLLY GOOD and they wink me.
Thats pretty surprising another woman did that to you :/ i would be pretty damn insulted if that happened to me and kick her or his ass out the door lol
Actually most of the time I have experienced sexism at work its usually an older woman ironically enough. It doesn't happen very often, but occasionally. I was more surprised than insulted.
Yes , very briefly , 2 rabid misandrists at a workplace I was fortunately at briefly , comments like " men should all burn !! " , " men are cancer " , you all get the picture. If any man said that towards women , instantly sacked & also prosecuted & likely jailed too.
No, just a condescending boss and micromanager who harasses me and lectures me about the 12 hours a day I spend working, saying how I don't get enough done meanwhile all he does is walk in circles, harassing me every time he passes my office. Can't wait to put both of them 6 feet under
Many times, mainly men being sexist to women, but ironically now I work in a firm of solicitors. All the employees in the firm are female. The female senior partners openly refuse to employ men.
Its because men and woman are different. The world is already sexist, no guy is getting into the club for free. Its only sexist when it doesn't benefit you.
My question to you would be… did you know you were entering a male dominated industry, and if you did, did you do it on purpose with an agenda in mind?
I think they purposefully hire attractive females to work at car dealerships. Sex sells. Not that I go to a car dealership often, but I've never seen an ugly cars sales woman.
Kinda, There was a female supervisor at my previous job that was only nice abd friendly to other girls and mean and unfriendly to guys. It was obviously a sexism thing because she did that to every guy..
It wasn't necessarily sexist, but I didn't like how my female co-worker complained to our boss that instead of saying goodbye properly, I was saying goodbye in a "typical male way", just because I simply left after she bothered me without noticing.
I have to deal with a female chauvinist at work. She can be pretty awful. This is what happens when the company president has a real thing for blonde divorcees.
