Family 1 Background info: I have a client I work with who is a young girl 18. She's currently getting surgery so she's in the hospital and will be there for a month. Anyways, she is a vegetable no offense but I blame that on the parents for waiting so long and not taking medical advice. I dont feel the client is progressing and she hasn't since I've known her. Her parents are in denial of her mental capacity.
Family 2 Now: I met a new family while my client is in the hospital to work with. I like this client a whole lot better. Her parents are progressive, open to advancing their child, open to me helping their child out in learning and from a medical prospective they're more of a team effort. The little girl is so much fun and full of life. The environment is beautiful. They want someone long term for their child. And her condition is complicated which I like because I would love to learn more about children with her type of conditions. They want her to go to school but need a school nurse. I want her to go to school and learn.
Would you stick to family 1 or venture out to family #2?

G2 The Family jas a head start and the family will do anything for there child
F1 the little girl is still in there and need to feel life throught someone else with laughter kindness happiness special person used to being bald because not only she needs help but the parents need help to understand everything is okay it's okay to have a child like that the part that they might not like is that it weighs them down it's not a me me me world anymore it's a my daughter daughter world but the whole family needs help not just the daughter and it's going to take a very special person to do that I would have to go family one because I know nobody else would go with her so everybody likes the easy way the fun way I have to go to the hard way the challenging way my way because I know I can make a difference somewhere somehow
Thanks for the invite. I'm not sure I have much to offer on this topic, but I noticed that you seem optimistic about family #2. I get the impression from your descriptions that you may be craving a change. The job you do is very difficult, my ex-wife actually worked taking care of people with special needs as well, and doing home care. I think every place you work is going to have it's good and bad points. Good luck with whichever you choose.
You're welcome, your answer was helpful and yes im more optimistic about the second family. They're more open to advancing their child, very educated, they work as a team with nurses and therapist. The little girl is capable of learning and not a vegetable like the other child. I've had some issues with family 1 to where they don't like to hear the truth about how their child is doing and Aldo ask for things that they shouldn't. I've had to put my foot down and set boundaries with family 1. Family 2 I'm sure there are some good and bad but the environment is so different. I just love it breath of fresh air
Family 1 will not find a better fit unfortunately. They've ran everyone off. Several teachers, nurses, physical therapist, and occupational therapist. Issue here:The issue with family 1 is that they want nurses, physical therapist, occupational therapist and speech therapist to be babysitters. They dont want the truth such as realistic updates on their child from a medical prospective. They prefer to be in denial which has damaged kid in family 1 tremendously. Its one thing if they actually listened to medical professionals and did what they were supoosed to do on time but they dont. So i dont really care what their needs are because they are selfish. Family 2 is progressive. A very educated family who understands the importance of collaborating with medical professionals to a point that everyone's needs are met especially the child's. I see a lot of potential in family 2 child. So I want to see her flourish. She deserves it.
I say do what excites you and what makes you feel good - I understand you might feel bad about dropping the first family - but you sound so much more enthusiastic about the 2nd family and I do feel like you'll eventually regret it if you stick to the 1st family with no results and no support at all..
I have really no answer actually in both cases you will be helping so i would only request be with first family untill they find someone else.
Give them sometime to make arrangements and make sure that the other person is capable of taking care as she is your patient and for humanity sake this is small inconvenience but a good deed can bring you more peace
The issue is 1st family have ran through nurses due to their mindset. 2nd family doesn't have a nurse only because their nurses have ventured off to further their education. Nurses never stay with family one. I'm the only reliable one thus far. I feel I can help family 2 more because they are more open to growth for their child. I love that. And I would love to see kid to go back to school and flourish. She deserves teaching from professionals and that mental stimulation of interacting with kids her age. I see so much potential in girl 2.

Once again I reiterate my point. Who needs the help the most? I should have been more specific though, when I said family number one. I meant the client.. The18 year old girl.. She is the one who will suffer the most.. and that right there is why I couldn't do your job. I would want to help everyone who needed it and it would break my heart to have to accept I couldn't.
You're beating a dead horse. Doesn't matter what girl one needs because you're not going to meet her needs due to the parents interfering. It's a dead end situation. The parents aren't going to allow you to do your job. That's why child 1 is a vegetable now. She's on her way out.
"Client", what do you do? Maybe doesn't matter, but I think you already know the answer, you just want confirmation because you feel bad for 1. But you said it yourself, no progress is being made, so it's a waste of time right? You can actually help 2.
Sometimes ya gotta just say I did what you said you wanted if you aren't going to take MEDICAL advice then I've done what you have asked for and I need to move on and help other patients/clients. Its not your job to do the parenting after all.

Sorry but been there done that. Still no change in them. And because they haven't listened their child is now a vegetable and several other nurses have had the same complaint and left. I can't put my life on hold for that family. Their child so it's their responsibility not mine. I did my part🤷🏾♀️
Because you can help their girl more. Allocation of limited resources. It may sound heartless, but we don't have unlimited resources so we give them to those that can benefit the most from them.
You know what you're right. For some reason I don't feel like she has that much longer to live because she's declined so bad. So it's like I might as well start working with someone else. The only thing with girl one I like is that I don't do shit so it's easy money. She don't walk, talk, eat, or do anything but lay down all day. Then again it's annoying af because she can't do or comprehend anything. And she's a sweet drive from me like 10min.
Now girl 2 she lives further but it's on this ritzy side of town. It's funny because I've passed their place a year ago saying " wow I'd love to live here one day". Crazy how I end up in this area. But yeah the family 2 is more progressive, the girls condition is interesting and good experience, she's fun, teachable, we would do outings, they have a lake house in the back I can take her to for a break and a backyard trail. They said we can go on neighborhood walks and I'd go to school with her. So there will be things to do. Won't be stuck in the house all day.
No she cannot 🤣. And here's why. At 18 years old I'm still trying to teach her the difference between yes and the word no. She doesn't know what that means. That's the first thing kids learn next to mommy and daddy.
I like the fact you're optimistic about girl 1 but I've tried she's not mentally capable and it's gotten to the point where I've yelled at her. I have been teaching the girl the samething forever and still she doesn't get it. She can't talk either. So she hits a yes or no switch.
