I'm in the process of joining the Military but my mom doesn't support me joining, should I continue?

I'm in the process of joining the Army because there are no jobs that will hire me after all of the applications that I have sent, and I'm tired of having no money and living with my mom.

Right now I'm in WIOA Adult Program so I could get my dream career started but they move along way too slow for me, and at my age I should have been doing something already.

A few weeks ago when I told my mom that I was looking to join the Army she told me that she doesn't support me joining and said that I would be signing my own death warrant. I tried explaining to her that not all jobs in the Army are combative, but she just continued on.

I'm at the phase right now of the Recruiter reaching out to me via email/phone and wanting to set up a meeting with me, but I don't want to make my mom upset but I also need to do something.

Joining the army shortly before WWIII starts might not be the best idea but hopefully that still won't happen and the same could have been said at pretty much any point in at least the last 30 years.

You may well be fine if you aren't infantry and war isn't declared but you should go into it expecting to see if not combat, then at least action, there is no getting away from the fact that you are most certainly gambling your life and your limbs.

You should also consider how that sort of indoctrination and discipline etc could change who you are in ways that are perhaps undesirable.

Joining the army is a bad idea, mainly if this army is an offensive army like the one that you intend to serve and that is the arm of a few megalomaniacs whose aim is to attempt to rule the world.

You are aware that you will be sent as cannon fodder to "defend the country" 10,000 miles away from your own country, right?

All those trigger happy guys and girls will have to shoot and murder children and elderly, all in the name of freedom. If murdering and assassinating innocent people does not bother you, then you join this troop of murderers but before you go, tell your mother that you love her because she will most likely not see you ever again.

First, I would say fuck the Army, go Navy or Air Force. Sign up for a technical program (i. e. air traffic control, fireman, electronics) and come out with a real skill you can market.

I’m currently in the Army. I was in the exact position as you, except I was not in the process of waiting for my dream job. If all you have to do is wait, then wait. The Army has a lot of benefits but it’s a hard road.

But I would say if you really want to do the Army route join in as an officer. Ask your recruiter to tell you more about coming in as an officer. ROTC. Reserve Officer Training Corps (Pronounced Core). If you join in as an officer you will start of earning more money.
Ask what is the minimum time I have to serve as an officer versus enlisted. That way you can make an informed decision. Ask about what benefits the Army offers as well that can help your current position. And ask if you can get a bonus. Research job positions you would like ahead of time as well, don’t go in there winging it or you’ll get something garbage.

I am enlisted so I know you have to serve 8 years total, but you can leave out of the Army early. So you can tell the Army hey I want to serve only this amount of years and then leave, but if it’s less then 8 years then they can call you back at anytime to serve the remainder.

If you are just joining the Army because you think that your opportunities in civilian life are limited than you are doing yourself a disservice. You will not like Army life and you will not be successful.

I don’t remember, however, there are Years Served either equals no interest loans OR compensation for advanced degree.

I would advise looking at the Guard and Reserve. That way it’s possible to pursue both.
