They liked that i got B's but still wanted me to try harder for A's

I never got less than an A in my classes ever to find out what my parents thought

My parents grounded me if i ever got anything less than an A!

It depended on the class or test, some they were more harsh on than others if i got a B

There are many educators in my family. We all appreciate that education is a journey, not a destination. Tests and exams are regarded as a measure of progress, not of ineptness. If everything else is going fine, then they are a a means to discover where further education can be focused.

I did well in math and science most of the time. It was the times that I didn't do well that alerted my parents to other things going on in my life - such as distractions, hormones, illness, mental health issues etc. My parents weren't overly concerned about low test scores as it was a good thing for both me and my parents when my parents were alerted to other things going on in my life and had the opportunity to deal with these issues - which were far more significant than test scores.

I come from a culture where "B" only stands for "Bad". I was never scolded; NEVER. But I knew my dad was never satisfied enough.

It's a bit opposite of American culture here where nobody ever tells you that you are doing bad. Hence the people in Reality competition shows where you see some people devastated because nobody ever tild them that you sing or dance like shit. I admit I am comparing academia to something less serious. However, i have seen the difference having brought up 2 kids who are in college now.

B was like as you failed. A1 was okay, A2 was bad and B was fail. I remember poor 7 yr old me crying because I got B1 in EVS. You don't have a life if you score below 80 percent. Before I also used to think that B is bad but... It's pretty great. My dad was scolding me to score 87 % in Periodic tests, he scolded me really badly. I mean I understand I'm a 90% scorer but now I don't have just studies in my life. I'm getting selected for so many essay writing competitions and school concerts that it is being hard to manage.

So yeah this is the story of many Asian kids. Thankfully it is the last generation where parents would be strict because in our time we won't be so harsh. And if you compare my story with my friend's story then it's nothing, like she gets all freedom but if she brings below 90 percent then her mom hits her with leather belt or slippers. I'm actually lucky compared to that.

They were extremely disappointed, but they were never “hard” on me if I got a ‘B’. Now that I’m an adult, and on my own… tbh I REALLY miss that accountability I had in high school, living at home! I had absolutely amazing parents to raise me. I think I hit the “family lottery” when I was born. Seriously, when I hear other stories of the worst kinds of abuse, and it was perpetrated by the family (meaning moms & dads, obviously I'm not including extended family like “uncle’s”)

It wasn't toxic or anything. My mom and I had fun with it. I was never punished for getting a B. Just not praised.

Not at all!! My parents were great! They didn’t know English, so they had no idea when I failed gym because I decided to not go to class.
my kids on the other hand, they got a 98… I said good job… what do you want as reward. They said nothing but then they complained to the teacher that they should have gotten 100

I have stopped letting my parents bother me to be honest. I get A+, A-, B+, B-, and C+, on average.

My mom was when I was small. She would sort of really mildly beat me up when I got fewer marks. But that stopped the day I caught her hand and accidentally broke it around the wrist. She knew I had become strong to take on her now.

My father is like, get whatever you want, as what you get tomorrow, will be in correspondence with what you get today. He says.

I've never gotten lower than a B normally but they are usually happy and just tell me to always work hard.

They definitely encourage me to try to get as many A's.

They didn't want me in first place. So it didn't matter if I went to school or not. If it wasn't for my grandfather I would have never go to school.

Heck no, my parents were estatic to see if i had a B. I was mostly a C/B student growing up. Now they would be a little concerned If got a D but that didn't happen often.
