Those who can drive a car. What advice would you give to those who are starting to learn how to drive?

Try to stay calm. Yes, you're rocketing down the road at speeds far exceeding what your ancestors ever reached, in a metal cage propelled by exploding processed dinosaur bodies, but you're not on the cover of a metal album (somehow).

It can help to find a safe, quiet place (empty parking lots are what I used at first) to get comfortable with moving around and keeping track of what's going on all around you. Once you get to that point, the biggest thing is practice. When I started out, I was nervous as all get-out; I told my mother after my first lesson that "I think twenty miles an hour is PLENTY fast enough for me"- I went on to become a professional truck driver. The more you do, the more natural it'll be.

Practice driving under difficult weather conditions (hard rain, snow, ice, fog...) in a safe environment, so you internalize the different car behavior.

Don't get yourself provoked to join some idiotic street race.

Always anticipate the incompetence of other drivers.

Basically, just pay attention to DRIVING, not things like texting, eating, or bopping to the radio. Distracted drivers are really the worst thing on the road today, so stay alert and attentive. Don't tailgate, watch your mirrors to see what's around you, be courteous to other drivers and don't engage in anything stupid like road rage or street racing. You don't necessarily need to drive like a grandma to be safe, but you do need to concentrate on driving and only driving when you're behind the wheel.

Always pay attention to the road. Always remain calm behind the wheel. Make sure you are always aware of what's around. USE your mirrors and turn signals please!

Stay away from distractions while driving. No texting, talking on the phone, or loud music.

Drive for yourself and other people too.

There are so many things out on the road that can get you in a world of trouble. Eliminate every possible distraction before moving the car. So that you can concentrate on your driving…..
Distractions include unruly friends, cell phones, eating while driving and keeping your car in tip top shape. So it is safe to drive!

Always look around and use your mirrors a LOT. Don't follow closely ever. Small, smooth movements on the steering wheel, and brake before you think you need to.
