Am I? Nu, if Hindi/Urdu are two languages, Dari/Farsi/Tajik are three languages, Malaysian/Indonesian are two languages, Yiddish/German are two languages, Serbian/Bosnian/Croatian/Macedonian are four languages, how come Yankee/Dixie/Aussie/Kiwi/English are all one tongue?

@HippieVeganJewslim American English is a variation of English, just like British English, Australian English, Canadian English and South African English. Variation of languages also include dialects, slang and jargon. For example Swiss German and German are the same language but two different dialects, words may not be spelled the same or pronounced the same (in the case of Swiss German its more pronunciation and slang because Swiss German is not really a written language). An example of variations in English is colour vs color or analyse vs analyze. Both are correct.

Plus, American is not a language.

Many consider American to be a tongue, but many Yankees call theirs ‘English,’ although they can’t always understand English English. Does that mean Hindi/Urdu, Dari/Farsi/Tajik, Malaysian/Indonesian, Yugoslavian ‘languages,’ and even Rumanian/Moldovan to be single languages?

@HippieVeganJewslim Guy, just go read a book or do some research. It's not that hard to understand the difference between languages, dialects and variations.

I call myself not a guy/Guy, but yes. I’ve read in a book or link that ‘it’s sometimes hard to draw a line between two languages and two dialects of one language.’ As I said, many Yankees understand me not.
