We lazy, ignorant US citizens tend to mispronounce words quite often (off-ten, or offin?). Ell oh ell! Do you say ‘buTTer’, or ‘budder’? Don’T, or don’? The apostrophe represents a glottal stop in that case. Glottal stops are recognized lingual expressions in some languages. We use them in English, but it’s widely considered lazy and ignorant. Can a stranger tell the difference between ‘bitter’ and ‘bidder’ when YOU are speaking? Do they require context, or do you enunciate?
It's hardly to fair to complain exclusively about Americans when you're talking enunciation; it's not like the dropped Hs of the English (and those who learned the language from them) are correct, either- and the idiotic overinsertions to compensate for it (no, they're not "haiches") don't help, especially when you still treat surrounding words as though they're not there- any American student of history will tell you that anyone referring to "an historic" anything not sounds ignorant, but classist as well.
And then there's R. R is a troublesome letter; I can accept that- the parsley massacre alone would demonstrate that. But no one who says that pirates and dentists say the same thing is in a position to criticize. I suppose there's room for the Chinese, since their language lacks that sound, but the folks from UK will then tell you that the two most populous countries in the world are Chiner and India. Then they get confused when you ask them to show you where Chiner is on a map.
This is the fundamental root of the problem: EVERYBODY does it wrong, it's just a question of how.

I don’t do much enunciating, and, in fact, it’s actually one of my biggest pet peeves in others’ speech, lmao. The crisp “T” sounds; words like “walking”, when people are saying the full “-ing” instead of “-in’ “…. drives me nuts. I know that’s technically correct, but it drives me nuts. Using “whom” where appropriate, that pisses me off, kind of just like “who the fuck are you, professor?”🙄 And I conscientiously object to this “an historic” business, that sounds ridiculous. I won’t do it😂 I’m all about informality, no tweed jackets with suede elbow patches in my closets, haha.
We can not be friends. Ell oh ell! I work in construction, and i take a lot of crap about how i speak and write. I get crap online for the “ell oh ell”. I’m not perfect, but i try to speak and write properly, with a few deliberate exceptions for irony or hyperbole. And the occasional autocorrect misfire that i don’t catch. GD autocorrect!
I guess as a native English speaker with a typical Central Canadian or Toronto area accent, it’s good. I have never really thought about this. Enunciation quality really depends on specific regions and the accents associated with those regions. I do my best to speak clearly. We have a diverse population here and many people speak English as a second language, including my dad and my husband.

I was a singer and I'm English, with a private school background. I tend to speak slowly and enunciation and pronunciation are as "comfortable" for me as my natural accent
