Most children's fairy tales come from Germany but have been changed over the years. It could be worth examining one in detail looking at it through the context of Germany at the time it was written and how and why it was changed into the modern version.
Another idea would be to look at Faust and how his tale of selling your soul is retold today in popular culture

You could write about the way secondary characters prop up the main character in German literature or the archetypal secondary characters you usually find in a German myth, and how those characters function as a release valve for expressing forbidden desires the author has but does not want to attribute to their main character.
