Ways too respond to bullying at work?

when they call me chubby or slow i just want too cry and leave but i can't. i don’t want to cause problems and mind my business but all some of my coworkers do is try to belittle me then laugh about it saying they were joking.

Shame them by criticizing their humor.

Dont debate the context of what they say-

for example:

If they said to me:

omg rose you’re so fat!

My response would be:

“Andd? Weight fluctuates, that’s how it works. No one stays the same exact weight from dusk to dawn. Besides, you find that comedic? No seriously, you’d actually pay a comedian a fee of 40-50 US dollars, to JUST. To. Say. someone was fat?

Thats not comedy.

That’s just being blatantly obvious or possibly delusional.

I pity your taste in comedy, and that’s the truth. You try to have a good day okay? Okay.”

and then kind of laugh in disbelief a

“a HA!”

or a “bah!”

Shame them for their taste in comedy

and confront them with logic. They need to grow up.

I’d even throw something out like:

”wow wow wow… nice one, you think you can come up with a joke all by yourself, that *doesn’t* involve Me as the punchline, all the time? I think you should be paying me…

Yeah so you know, I can buy myself burgers while you work over time, here… since you spend more time blabbing Cracker Jack jokes instead of grinding, yeah?

Anyways think about it 😘.”

or if they keep going-

“if I wasn’t busy on my work, I’d say that you didn’t want to work here. Seems like you’re in the wrong career!

Did you always want to work for the circus? Or is that a “newly-felt dream” of yours?

Well I’d vote you could work for the circus or stand-up comedy, if they even let you in past the club’s bouncers. I mean, if they heard those jokes a mile away- they’d for sure, believe you to be high schoo-aged.

Yeah try to work on that- you know- acting OLDER. 🙂😊.

if they even have nerve to go past all of that, and persist, I’d tell them:

Sorry I can’t rate all your poor quality jokes, and give you the attention you probably don’t get from your mother or from the prostitutes on the street on Friday nights, unlike them? I actually have a job and bills that need to be paid.

So you discuss that with someone who will be willing to give you 24hr attention, and I’ll just focus on being an Adult.”

Any response from them, “yeah I just don’t have the time. I’m unimpressed to say the LEAST. Feel free to waste your time, though.. not mine.”

Whenever you say any of these if they act like you’re dramatic or cold-

You can say something like

”ohhh I thought we were just jokinggg. I just try to be more clever with my jokes. Since it clearly bothered you I’ll stop. Seems like our tastes in food and comedy vary greatly.

C’est la vie!”

And move on.

Listen. Sis.

Do not give them the TIME OF DAY.

Do not let them live rent free in your mind.

THIS IS NOT HIGHSCHOOL

THIS IS A JOB.

You work there to get paid, and get your shit out the door, and elsewhere at the end of the day, so you can do, what you want, eat what you want, and be where you want to be-

ESPECIALLY on vacations.

If it gets too much for you and somehow they are so empty headed they are broken record players on loop-

just quit- no job is worth that amount of stress.

If you can work with headphones consider that as well?

No need to socialize with them- it’s not their friggin’ slumber party.

Everything is happening FOR you so every situation is an opportunity! This is a chance for you to love parts of yourself that you don’t right now. I. e. chubby and slow. Maybe even being defenceless. Get a mirror now and tell yourself “I love you even chubby, even slow, even when you’re too scared to speak up against bullies. I am on your side. I will not abandon you." Repeat this daily. Do it for all the parts that you find you are ashamed of and watch your confidence soar.

Trust me, once you learn to validate yourself, you’ll start to lose the need for anyone to ever like you again. Which paradoxically will just make you so amazing to everyone else.
