I want to enter into trading shares and more, can anyone help?

I have been fascinated by the trading market and would like to invest in companies with some of my savings, can anyone advise on how I can move forward? And help me with the whole process of how to go about it.

So disclaimer. I’m not a financial advisor.


But the application Robinhood is fairly popular for getting started. It’s free (for the basics) and you can create an account, deposit money, then trade ETFs and stocks. However, there are a lot of other brokerages out there, and you should do your research on which one you want to create an account with.


I highly recommend starting with ETFs that track the S&P 500 (500 large companies on the stock market). Think of it like a basket of those 500 companies and you’re buying part of the basket. So if one company fails, it doesn’t really impact you that much. Whereas if you own an individual stock, and the company fails, you’ve lost a lot (if not all) of your money. Those ETFs tend to track the entire economy and stock market more than a single company. Which is great because on a long enough timeframe, the economy has always grown.


Overtime, if you want to get into higher risk things, and feel comfortable with it, you can consider investing in individual companies.


I don’t recommend investing your entire savings. It’s recommended to keep 3-6 months worth of expenses in savings as an emergency fund. Anything beyond that can be invested.


Finally, read, learn, do your research. There is a lot to learn about investing and the stock market. And no one knows everything. Multiple people might have perfectly valid differing strategies. Your job is to learn, understand why people believe in certain strategies, determine the pros and cons of each, and make your own decisions. At the end of the day it’s your money on the line, no one else’s.

Well I'd start by putting money slowly over time into a low fee mutual fund. Even investing in a fund that covers the 500 stocks in the S & P 500, you will beat, over time, the average investor. You can look at charts at how it has grown over the decades.
