Its normal for anyone to get laughed at you in school for speaking in front of a class, I got laughed at school for speaking in front of a class. I just laughed with them to be honest.

Being shy and awkward has nothing to do with being laughed at, its how you conduct yourself while talking to them. As long as you weren't called horrible names, or any violence been acted towards you, then i wouldn't really worry about too much.

sorry I meant its not normal, but I more meant, It can be a common theme for people to laugh at you while speaking to an audience. It takes a lot skill to do that.
