Are there any good study abroad, work abroad or live abroad programs? I’m looking for cultural immersion? Could I live with a host family somewhere?

I am a college student.

Unfortunately I cannot enter any high school programs, of which there are several.

Also it’s probably too late for me to join most college programs, as I’ve completed my second year of college, in a major specific field, of which there exist only approximately 30 or so colleges in the entire United States that offer my degree.

So I most likely won’t be able to find an International program for my degree specific classes either.

But regardless, in the future as an adult I’d like to live abroad somewhere.

Obviously I’d assume cost would be the biggest barrier to these “abroad” programs. Of all the peers I’ve known who’ve done abroad programs, their parents were usually pretty wealthy.

But given the field I plan on entering, once I get my degree, I should presumably be making a shit ton of money and I might as well enjoy myself once I have the means to do so.

Post college graduation, I could either join some established program for something, or live abroad with a host family if there exists a website I can use to find people who are down for that.

Or I could just move to some English speaking country like Australia or Ireland in the future, find work there within my profession, and make online friends with people in nearby countries and organize weekend trips to go those places.

Just wondering what my best option is because I feel as though for whatever the hell the reason, I am an adventurer and its just programmed in my DNA.

While I don’t have anything particularly against being American or living in the US, there’s still the entire rest of the world that I’m left curious about.

I understand that by and large these programs cost thousands of dollars.

So realistically its a good thing that I’m trying to stay focused by studying for a degree that can make me money in the future. However, I feel as though I’m sort of missing the excitement.

I have the means to do it now, but it might be better to do later. I don't know but its really tempting.
