I hate being a graphic designer, does anyone else feel the same?

Hey everyone, I started working with someone who owns a graphic design company as a freelance graphic designer and im really starting to hate it for a couple of reasons:

1. I feel like nothing i do is really my work she always reviews what i do and changes it to things she wants to see and i hate.

2. I really feel like i have no time im infront of the computer for 12 hours a day and when i want to go out i can't because i keep changing my work to what the boss wants and its driving me nuts.

3. No work that i did was really mine everything is just what the person that gives me the work wants me to do its really frustrating and im starting really not to like this job.

Can anyone in the graphic design field relate or changed their career path?

It sounds like u didn't know what u would be doing before you went into the field why bot change jobs I got 2 friends that are in that field with both change due to fears of that type of job being made redundant in the future

hey, did those friends stick to the creative fields or did they switch up completely?

They haven't changed yet but are looking to change sorry as for it I don't believe they got onto it because they like to be creative but more so they was good at drawing and knew they could make money off it where it would seem to me that u value being creative in a way graphic design is not for u

yes i understand, i also like to draw i took graphic design because i thought it would be good and make me really show my creativity to the world but it isn't the same unfortunatly i just dont know what else i would like i need to look into it and do my research, thank you for your reply!

Apart from being a artist I don't think their is a job where u get to truly explore your creative side under your own control

I hated it as well. I was a graphic designer for a sign company. Made thousands of signs for my local time, customers loved them.. My boss always talked shit on me though, as if I was not good enough.

Well maybe your boss was jealous 100% and that's great that the customers loved them! that's all that matters.

No disagreement. What made me hate it, I would design something fantastic. The client loves it and wants to move forward with it.. Boss says it's too expensive. So he radically alters my design without telling the client. Then blames me when they don't like the design.. Of course I defend my self and he threatens to fire me.. Eventually I quit.

That's horrible honestly and you did the right thing! Mental health is important and having a good boss is rare to find, may I ask if you continue to work in this field or did you shift to something different?

I freelance a bit, but I work as a technician now. Graphic design was always a hobby, I fee like it was a mistake making it a job.. So I now work as a systems architect for enterprise server and computer systems. Much fatter pay check and I'm mostly Moy own boss.

That's amazing and I'm happy for you, I'm looking into changing to a career that will pay more too I just wanted graphic design because I'm a very creative person and love creating things but that's bit the reality of the job so I'll look into something that is in high demand right now and honestly it feels like graphic design is at risk with all this artificial intelligence so that's something I'm scared of

Yeah sitting in front of a computer all day is not healthy. You should've gotten into the trades and become lineman making 250k.

is that something i need to go to college for?

No it's trade school. Line workers usually do apprenticeships to save money. You have to climb though so if you're scared of high places maybe look into another trade.
