I studied industrial engineering and started work in oarge corporations. After a few years I earned a 6-digit yearly salary when converted to US dollars.

This did not require great sacrifices. It's not a stellar career, either, but still a useful contribution to the economic process.

Importantly, I could come home early enough to spend time with my kids.

I work in IT (Buildup/Operating) and had solid five-figures. Going from employee to freelance almost doubled my income and put me into six-figures. But it also "quadrupled" my job risk.
